Michigan employer registration
We'll register you with:
- Tax portal: Michigan Treasury Online (MTO) for paying and managing your tax accounts
- We'll securely share your login credentials along with your Employer IDs
- State income tax: Michigan Department of Treasury
- You'll get your Withholding Tax Account within about a few business days
- State unemployment tax: Michigan Unemployment Insurance Agency
- You'll get your UIA Employer Account Number and Unemployment Insurance Total Tax Rate within a few business days after you run your first payroll
- Local tax agencies: We'll register you in any applicable local tax agencies
- Processing times vary by location
Sit back and relax—we'll let you know if we need anything else from you along the way. Most of the time you won't need to do anything until it's time to sign your Power of Attorney form and enter your new Employer IDs and tax rates into your payroll system.
Once Michigan issues your Employer IDs, we'll work with you to sign a Power of Attorney form for your payroll company to file and pay taxes on your behalf. In rare cases, we'll also need your help coordinating with your Michigan-based employees to confirm their Predominant Work Location. Once we have everything, we'll help you enter your Employer IDs and tax rates into your payroll correctly.
If you have any questions in the future, we won't leave you hanging. We offer ongoing support packages in case anything goes wrong (and to make sure nothing goes wrong in the first place).
